This should be a modern color on cars. Gorgeous and sophisticated.

  1. Since it's a 1940 Ford if the paint is original it's either Sahara Sand or Tucson Tan. Some vintage paint colours are difficult to duplicate exactly because modern paint cannot contain lead and other toxins.

  3. There's a fad on this side of the lake for awful pale greys on new cars. They look as if the factory left off the colour coat and lacquered the primer!

    1. I've noticed this fad and it's weird. So many cars these days appear to have been made of modeling clay.
At least that's what they look like to me. Odd colors.

    2. 50 Shades of Gray is the name of the sample book the car makers use today. I'd be happy to see that old color, or ANY color, on the roads today. My Hyundai Palisade is Sierra Red, but looks black in almost all light conditions.

  4. In the hangar's paintshop they had the Ditzler, Imron and PPG binders of paint chips. If you see a car with original paint that you like and know the make and year of the car you can go to your bodyshop and look it up in their binder. That's how I chose the colour when I wanted to repaint my motorcycle.
Don't know if the paint companies publish them anymore since everything is online now.

  5. Toyota had a color similar to that back in 05 & 06. They only put it on the Lexus ES 330 and the Tundra. I had an 05 330 for the wife. When it was dirty, it was dull looking. When clean, it was bright and shiny.

  6. My 64 Dodge was a similar color, but much prefer my 911 in Rainforest Green Metallic.

  7. My maternal grandmother had a 1936 "Businessman's coupe" that color. She called it "Chocolate Drop."
