And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Monitor Pass, Eastern California. Driven that many times.
In the Fall it's the prettiest pass in the Sierra. 50 years ago, some of the Aspens on top of the pass still had carvings from the Basque sheep men who grazed the area.
Amen to that! Turn left to Topaz, Minden/Gardnerville, Basque food at JT's, or right and through that little agricultural valley with huge cottonwoods, and eventually southward to Bridgeport. Awesome country. Hideout country!

That drive down Monitor Pass, past the stunning hanging valley is spectacular and a little disorienting.
ReplyDeleteGreeting from cold Pine Grove!
Goetz
I love where 89 pops out of the narrow canyon and tees into 395 near Topaz. No spot quite like it among California highways in the Sierra.
