And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Yeah...Lee Marvin was a genuine bad ass.
ReplyDeleteHear you man! Played some truly great memorable characters.
DeleteOne of my favorite actors, I liked him in Emperor of the North with Ernest Borgnine, another actor that served in WWII.
ReplyDelete"Oh, save me from the Presbyterians."
Delete"You bastard!"
ReplyDelete"Yes sir. In my case, and accident of birth. But you sir, you're a self made man".
It was interesting watching him guest star on the TV series Combat. Carrying an M1 rifle and watching him pull the action open just enough to do a chamber check instead of racking it all the way. Experienced infantryman
ReplyDeleteGod bless the United States Marine Corps!!!
ReplyDeleteHis stone:
ReplyDeleteLee Marvin
PFC
US Marine Corps
World War II
Right next to Joe Louis
DeleteWild One, Who shot Liberty Valance, Point Blank and many more! Tough Guy
ReplyDeleteThe Greatest Generation Hollywood actors were giants. All of the current rabble of over paid, egotistic brats wouldn't make a pimple on Lee's butt.
ReplyDeleteSpot. On.
DeleteI did not realize he was left handed.
ReplyDeleteHe's not. Liberty Valance was on Grit a couple night ago and he was right handed when Stewart-Wayne killed him. Pik is backwards.
DeleteThe pic is NOT reversed. Wrong again, as usual. Watch the movie.
DeleteI saw the holster on left hip for the revolver. Maybe weak hand shooting ?
DeleteOr perhaps the photo negative is reversed?
DeleteHe wore a gun on both hips in that movie jeez… go watch it and see.
DeleteThat holster shown is on his LEFT hip, not his right hip. Unless his torso is twisted 180 degrees ! I don't think reversed image. Very likely weak hand shooting. Back then, the fastest reload was another gun.
DeleteLee Marvin was a Bad Ass !!
His pants belt is positioned as a right-hander would do it.
DeleteTypically, the belt tongue ends up pointing at your off-hand/weak hand for most people.
Even the gun belt is pointing the same way.
However, some gun belts are designed for right-handers, with a curve that fits your hips, so they HAVE to be worn that way.
Being a Pacific vet, always wondered what he thought about making "Hell in the Pacific"
ReplyDeleteHe is buried in Arlington next to Joe Lewis, the boxer!
ReplyDeleteRHT 447 stole my thunder...Favorite line of any movie...In the Professionals he wore a 1911 on his right hip.......the revolver looks like a 1903 New Service Colt that used .45 ACP in moonsclips......

DeleteLee was a Marine Scout Sniper, not a Bee Gee, (machine gunner).
