The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
For 1904 Manchuria that's a fairly modern bolt action rifle. I'd think someone in that region would more likely than not still be packing a muzzle loader. Hell, our army didn't get a bolt action until 1892, just a few years earlier than the pic.
Very interesting and a bit of a departure from his usual western themes. If you're ever in Fort Worth the Amon Carter museum is a must see.
