And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There is a book titled "Salt" it is a good read. During the Civil War a bag of salt would go for $50 as all the mines and surface sources were up north. The thing is that Avery Island, noted for growing a particularly spicy pepper was sitting on top of one of the biggest salt deposits. They just didn't know it, yet. If that discovery was made a few years earlier, the South might have been able to sue for peace from the North. Changing the course of history.
