The Ancestral Estate

  1. Nice pic but I'm pretty sure my Ancestral Estate is a mud hut in Ireland somewhere.

    1. That door is 3' wide, do the imaginary math. That house isn't that big. 36'-40' wide. The height and pitch of the roof indicates it may be about 30' deep. So, 40' x 30' = 1200 sq ft x 3 floors = 3600 sq ft. It ain't a castle.

  2. I wonder if it'd meet today's R factor insullation codes

    1. No central heat. Two big fireplaces on each floor, big stove in the kitchen.

  4. Irish Wolfhounds, not a bad looking dog!

  5. The "conversation" between the two dogs of the estate: "I say, Dogbert. Do you see the crows in yonder field?" "Why yes I do, Farquar old boy. Shall we scatter them?" "Methinks that would be a most grand idea. Let us proceed."

  6. Back in 1994 I lived for 6 months in the 17th century Butlerstown Castle County Wexford Ireland. Talk about damp and drafty. Every night it took 2 duvets, 2 hot water bottles and some snorts of Jameson to keep me alive.

  7. And what about that winsome red headed Irish lass? The one that brought the Jameson?

  9. A beautiful English country house in the Cotswolds. Home to the landed gentry and the nouveau riche!
