  1. A warehouse full of yellow bananas seems like a financial disaster

  2. Yeah, perhaps it’s a processing plant of some sort, those wouldn’t even make the boat trip…

  4. You guys beat me to it. There is something wrong with that picture unless they are going to process all those bananas right there. Believe it or not, the need to get bananas to consumers at the right time is one of the things that led to the development of demand sensitive lead time driven inventory systems. Anybody who works with SAP or similar systems is going to look at that and go "uh oh!, problem".

  5. Fake or those aren't bananas. They're are as big as his arm and appear to all be loose. Maybe some other crop?

  12. Quick question: With apple crops, they stash them in a warehouse like this and then seal it up, hook up a giant propane burner, and burn off all the oxygen to leave just CO2 inside - they call this C-Ox, or used to, 'controlled oxygen' storage. The apples will keep for months like this, so that they can be sold year 'round.

Now: Apples are one of the few fruit that have to be picked ripe. Is this a similar case for bananas? Do they use C-Ox for them too? Just putting it out there in case anyone knows......

  15. Gorillas are African animals. Bananas originated in SE Asian and are mostly grown in Central/South America. They have never been a normal part of the diet for Gorillas, Chimps and other large primates except for Orangutans. It's only been in the last century or so that humans introduced this item to African primates.
