  6. Used to work on those beasts, you got to stand under one to fully grasp just how big they are, its said one wing generates 176,000 lbs of lift at take off. They can take in something like 67,000 lbs of fuel. Crazy how good they fly.

  7. Those are 727 numbers. The 747 weighs 375,000lbs or more empty, without a drop of fuel aboard. Max fuel weight is 361,000lbs on a standard day. Fuel density changes with temperature so if you're fuelling with Jet A at -20C/-4F you can board 4.3% more by weight. Conversely if you're fuelling in Arizona in the summertime you lose 4 or 5% of your capacity.
