  2. I was wondering...

Rose quartz is generally an affordable, semi-precious gemstone due to its abundance, with common varieties ranging from $1 to $14 per carat for raw or commercial-grade material.

  3. Went on a walk through Petrified Forest. Was too hot to stay very long, but quite interesting.

  4. A DOLLAR a CARAT? That's 5 bucks a gram! Go to any faceter's show. Rose quartz, clear quartz, amethyst, probably citrine (yellow amethyst) all for a few bucks a pound...454 grams....and yes, that's "commercial grade" stuff, because no faceter is going to buy junk that can't be cut into a gem. Yeah, the fleabay, etsy, and other sites are trying to get these prices (and maybe they do) but any gemcutters' swap meet will get you a bucketful. It's given away as door prizes....

  5. That stuff is the hardest gemstone to cut, tough as woodpecker lips, wears out saw blades and belts like nothing else, but it shines up to perfection, makes very nice jewelry stones.

  6. Petrified wood.
    Went to the NP.
There was more petrified wood in Holbrook than the Nat. Park.
They were using pieces of it for curb stops.

  7. I have my grandfather's books from the '60s. People were cutting slabs to make coffee tables and end tables from petrified wood.
