  1. I'm thinking the wing loading on a lifting surface so small might be kinda high. But then again, the size of the prop might overcome the small wing area.

  3. That's Mike Patey's creation.

    It has an 8 cylinder engine of something like 782 cubic inches. It's a true monster... Mike has a Youtube channel about this and Draco, another of his creations.

  5. Going without a cowling over the engine is great for cooling but would add a lot of drag, I think.

    1. Actually it would be worse. Some aircraft manuals limit the amount of time the engine is run with the cowlings off to avoid overheating. Cowlings create a higher air pressure above the cylinders to encourage airflow downward through the cooling fins. Baffles between the individual cylinders and between the cylinders and the cowling make sure all the cooling air flows between the cooling fins.
