And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

My grandfather had a house that looked like that except he had a grand vegetable garden in the side yard. He rented a garage for his car, only five blocks away. Few years ago I visited that neighborhood, street still too narrow for overnight parking but his garden was gone and the side yard was a driveway.
The first home that I purchased was a two-bedroom, one bathroom in Minneapolis. The entire neighborhood looked like this. It was 1972 and I paid $22,500. The $125 per month payment was almost too much to afford.
And by the way, that part of the city had alleyways behind them and where the homes' garages were located. No negotiating stairs in the winter or summer.

DeleteI paid $40K in 1982. Last property tax bill listed the house as $830K. The tax exceeds the old mortgage.
