And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Ward Bond, Gary Cooper, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Gaby Hayes.
Gabby Hayes was John Wayne's buddy. They made a ton of movies together in the 1930s. Wayne was learning his craft. I think I have seen almost every one of those flicks. Very nice photo!
Gabby Hayes was a prolific character actor best known as the comic sidekick in over 170 Western films alongside stars like Roy Rogers, John Wayne, and Randolph Scott. ReplyDeleteAs a kid, I don't remember Gabby spending much time with "The Duke" but he certainly was a sidekick of Gene Autry.
