  2. Gabby Hayes was John Wayne's buddy. They made a ton of movies together in the 1930s. Wayne was learning his craft. I think I have seen almost every one of those flicks. Very nice photo!

  3. As a kid, I don't remember Gabby spending much time with "The Duke" but he certainly was a sidekick of Gene Autry.

  4. You need to include Hopalong Cassidy. He and Gabby were in more movies together.

  7. LET'S TRY TO SETTLE THIS:

Gabby Hayes was a prolific character actor best known as the comic sidekick in over 170 Western films alongside stars like Roy Rogers, John Wayne, and Randolph Scott.
    Career Overview:
Gabby Hayes, born George Francis Hayes, became famous for his bearded, cantankerous, yet loyal sidekick roles in B-Western films from the 1930s to 1950s

He appeared in more than 174 Westerns, often playing the companion to cowboy heroes such as Roy Rogers (44 films), Gene Autry (7 films), Wild Bill Elliott (14 films), Randolph Scott (6 films), and John Wayne (15 films)

. Hayes’ characters were typically comic relief, but he occasionally played straight or villainous roles, demonstrating his versatility
