And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Our farm cat has one job, catching mice & rats - she fails. Last winter, the house was overrun with mice, we put out traps to catch them.
Our Dogs have multiple jobs, watching, chasing birds away from the livestock, herding, fetching & returning to us when we call. A bonus, they are great lap warmers.
If the cat wasn't raised by a mother cat outdoors, it's likely your cat doesn't know what a rodent is. Had a young cat show up at my door. Probably got tossed due to her constant talking. House was overrun by mice. I was catching them with sticky traps to feed to a roommate's snake. Snake got too big to bother eating mice. So, one evening, while she was walking around the rear patio, I grabbed a mouse and tossed it in front of her. Anything that seems to be self-propelled will get a cat's attention. She caught it and played with it for a bit, and when she took a break to let the mouse (and her) recharge, I smacked it with a gloved fist and got her a fresh one. She lost a few that got under the neighbors fence, but by the end of the evening she was a dedicated mouser. She LIVED for hunting after that. Turns out the playing with mice is how the females teach younger cats to catch them. Pre-wired for it, but it has to be turned on, it seems.
I once took a pizza out of the oven and set it on a table. My kitty smelled the aroma and jumped on the table to investigate. Landed right on top of the piping hot pizza and slid across the cheese. He never jumped on the table again.
My present cat has proven that some species of algae are smarter than her.
