Trip through Lassen today - four hours door to door

Went in the north entrance.  The road goes around the back side where the snow is deepest and lasts longest.  Came out the south side, then down Hwy 36 to Red Bluff, then home.

Not a small eruption back in 1915.

Brokeoff Mountain in the background.  Kid trying to fall off the boulder in the foreground.

Still significant snow on the shady eastern side.

Tallest snowbank, at the summit trail parking lot.

Little rills of ice cold, gin clear snowmelt literally everywhere.

Helen Lake still frozen, but a park ranger was posted there just to keep people from wandering out on the ice and falling through.

  3. Lived in Susanville and Lassen Peak was about 50 air miles away. It's beautiful country and I miss it.
