And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
A great deal of the Civil Defense gear is now in museums or the trash. During the Bosnian Conflict, the US sent loads of the 55 gallon cardboard drums, still filled with their Cold War Civil Defense gear, to Sarajevo.
Now, instead of running to the nearest fallout shelter, you are supposed to have a 72 hour bag for any disaster or attack. You and your family are to take care of yourselves without help for three days before the cavalry arrives.
My dad (WW2 Vet), came home one day (1960's) with several big square cans of WW2 Emergency "Carbohydrate". Each was +20lbs of CANDY!!!
We'd eat on those things, till we got 'sugar comas'! For a couple of pre-teen farm kids, it fueled the energy to get the chores done & some pretty rowdy times!
Only useful when the user has adequate AND proper information to plug in to it. Plus the knowledge of how to properly use it. But it's a good tool to have because if you need it odds are good you WON'T have the Internet to consult.
