  4. Hate to say it, that beef they are butchering, looks a lot like the feed lot kept, forced fed, hormone feed, fed beef we see come thru our custom meat shop, looks fantastic, tastes great, all marbled with fat and super sized muscle groups, bit it ain't all that good for you. There are these cattle guys who this is all they raise, they make serious bucks selling it to unwary customers, who pay really serious dollars to have brag worthy beef for them and friends. We stopped butchering for these cattle guys just on principle, they ain't informing their customers and we no longer wanted to be associated with that dishonest practice. Just saying. Caveat Emptor.

    1. And at what cost or price per pound? Not besmirching your statements; just wondering if people really care. I used to live on a family farm in central Wisconsin. We tried to sell freezer beef to supplement our income. People would complain because the fat was "yellow". When we would explain that the color was due to the grass based diet and it was healthier; they still would scrunch up their noses. Personally, I think the average consumer is ONLY concerned about price.

    2. Taste is number one. Grass-fed is ok. Corn-fed is great. Pasture or feedlot makes no difference - It's taste. Life is short. Enjoy. But then again - I burn tires and used oil. I trap and kill groundhogs, racoons, and possums. I kill bats and mice when they get in the house. If they leave me alone I leave them alone. God put us at the top of the food chain to take dominion.

    3. We raise Beeves on our small farmette, the custom butchering is done at a local shop. Our price is at our cost. How does that make money? Not having to MOW acres of fields, savings in Diesel, equipment, time.

That's little more than marketing, with claims of 'better fer ya' - than what the public is getting. Our business is 100% word-of-mouth, and we're lucky to fill our own freezers to feed us! (everyone wants it, says it just tastes BETTER).

Like Steve said, it's only about PRICE.
Our birds (free range) lay eggs with orange yolks. Ewww! being rich in beta carotene makes the yolk orange, eating grass & bugs makes the yolks orange - and they taste like EGG! Not bland like the big houses & supermarket eggs.
      It's an uneducated consumer.

Buy direct from the farmer, with the cows roaming the fields, a 1/4 or 1/2 cow - screw the 'finishing' nonsense.

  6. At a butcher shop I used to go to they had grass fed and finished selling right next to each other, I liked the finished beef better.

  7. The overwhelming majority of people in this country no longer
distinguish real food from crap on a cracker.
    Next stop, Soylent Green.

    1. I look at all the different "types" of milk, if it's not from an animal it's factory food and that factory food sure seems popular but it's not real food anymore.

  8. They’re about 35 miles south of here. Been there a couple of times. Good beef and sausages at reasonable prices.
