The launch of the first McDonald’s franchise (1955)
Their birth year is my birth year. My first real job was at McD's in 1970 at age 15 and I was paid $1.25 an hour and was glad to have it. No female employees, 19 cent burgers, 60 second service, small memorable menu, no drive through. Cash only.
My family lived in Syracuse, NY, in 1960. There was a 15-cent hamburger drive in in the city called "Carol's."

ReplyDeleteAnd sometimes only 12 cents. Thanks for the inflation big gov.
ReplyDeleteIn our town it was 12 cents and called Sum'ores.
DeleteStarted by two brothers.
ReplyDeleteStolen by a low life scumbag
they should have never trusted.
Mark Knopler wrote a great song "Boom, Like That" after reading Ray Kroc's autobiography.
DeleteThat’s a Kroc
DeleteYou know you're old when you realize you're older than McDonald's.

Sigh, add two zeros to that price now :-/. Also IMO not nearly a good a the original.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you factor in the grubhub (delivery outfits) service fee it exceeds affordable anymore. Tough on shut-ins.
