  1. the YF-23 black widow. great design but lost out on the contract to the F-22 cause it wasn't going to be made in Texas.

    1. F-22 was made in Georgia, Only the mid fuselage was made in Texas. And there were al lot of reasons the F-23 didn't get selected.

    2. The YF-23 used a lot of unproven technologies so the YF-22 was deemed a safer choice that would have fewer teething problems.

  2. My favorite stealth jet. Underrated design, the Rus ain't stupid, I believe they used a number of it's arial aspects in their beautiful SU57.

  3. What’s even more amazing is that the YF-22 (now F-22) and the YF-23 both competed in 1990 out of Edwards AFB from the hangars right behind where I worked (before I became a C-5 Flight Engineer).
The F-22 was designed, built, and out of production already. Russians and Chinese are finally catching up while we’re leapfrogging ahead.

  4. As the MD rep said about the YF-23, "it's an airplane you won't be embarrassed to taxi up to Base Ops in", not sure you could say the same about the F-22. The Raptor has been a great airplane, but sure wonder about what might have been.
