And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Those two sitting up on the plane look like they're fifteen years old.
After WWII there was a guy who built a car around a fighter engine. He had to use a number of truck parts to handle the strain. He could hit the gas while doing 100 mph and do the tire shredding thing.
We had an old MM2 in my division in the Navy. So old, we called him "Pops" He must have been 28 or 30. Or Senior Chief had 12-14 years in so early 30s probably.
One of the things that always amazed me about my time in the Navy, 60s and 70s was how you had a bunch of mostly young operating, maintaining some of the most sophisticated tech in the world. And doing it well, without a huge amount of technical supervision.
Messerschmitt 110 heavy fighter. The hornet painted on the nose means this plane belongs to ZG1 (ZerestorerGeschwader).

Liquid cooled inverted V-12
ReplyDeleteLike to put a Merlin or other in a street rod, got to be tire shredding torque in those engines.

DeleteKnowing the extreme difficulty for the Nazis to fill their ranks, those kids are probably 15 years old.
ReplyDeleteThey may have been 18.
