  3. Makes one think of all the blood spilled every time a king wanted to expand his kingdom. Even when you think things are settled down, the damn Vikings from the North might show up.

  4. The Franks were a Germanic tribe who ruled over the native Gauls and in 1914 that bit of history should have been remembered. Good realpolitik would have been not only for the US to abstain but to convince Britain to do the same.
