And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Rode one of these (not KLM, possibly pre-winglet) to Okinawa. Passing through mild turbulence, the wings were flexing such that the engines looked like apples on a branch, bobbing around in the breeze.
I rode in one of these out of the sandbox on a Southern Watch mission. All E-7 and above got the upper deck first class seats. We did not get the first class service. Everybody was handed 2 water bottles and a sack lunch for the flight. A re-fuel in Ireland where we drank the pub dry of beer and then to Dover.
I used to fly on these Houston to Amsterdam, then later Seattle to Amsterdam. The smell of brewing coffee when I boarded was heavenly. KLM was my favorite airline.
I miss those beautiful beasts. Honolulu to Sydney, Cairns to S.F., Boston to Shannon (Stewardesses with Irish accents!!), IAD to Heathrow (Stewardesses with English accents!!). The Good Old Days were sometimes fantastic.

ReplyDeleteI love watching that on a flight. One of the seven deadly warning signs of being an engineer.

Best seats in the plane were upstairs. Quiet, two stewardesses for 30 guys. Almost heaven.
