  2. Seem to recall those were called pressure suits, kept the pilot from blacking out on high G maneuvers and high altitude.

  3. That’s a capstan partial pressure suit, invented by Dr. James Henry ofUSC and manufactured by the Dave Clark Company. Several models were used by the USAF from the late 1940s thru the 1960s, when full-pressure “astronaut” suits were adopted. It was developed to protect pilots from high altitude cockpit decompression, altho some versions also incorporated anti-G capability.
