And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
USS Saratoga (CV-3) was commissioned on 16 November 1927 with Captain Harry E. Yarnell in command. The ship was originally to be built as a battle cruiser, but was later authorized to be completed as an aircraft carrier. Saratoga was the U.S. Navy's first fast carrier. I was abort the 2nd of three while it was in drydock next the the Battleship New Jersey that was getting ready for Vietnam. A no, I wasn't in the Navy. Army visiting a highschool friend on my way back to Vietnam for a second tour.
Not "Circa 1941" more like early 1930's. Not a monoplane in sight on that flight deck.
ReplyDeleteIf that is 1941 the pilots of those biplanes are dead men flying.
