And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Yes. I worked with a guy who had done adaptive optics work at Kirtland AFB. In the 1990s a French group put together an international conference to show off how advanced they were in this field. The Americans (US Air Force and contractors) hurried up and got permission to present work that had been under wraps (not classified, but not releasable), in time for the conference. The French proudly presented their amazing advances, and the Americans presented theirs. French guy: oh, no, the Americans are ten years ahead of us! ~ Doctor Weasel
