And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Boom! Note how the drive still is trying to steer without either front tire.
In defense of Danica Patrick… When you are about to crash into something, you DO want to LET GO of the steering wheel. Else, when you crash into something, the object may FORCEFULLY steer your wheels, and that can also cause the steering wheel to rotate suddenly and with a lot of force. If you happen to be hanging on to the steering wheel at the moment of impact, you may end up with a broken wrist or two. Seriously.
Very true. Happened to my son. Dislocated all the bones in his left hand from the wrist. 2 years and $80k in surgeries and rehab later, he, fortunately, has full use of his hand again.
Useless, but there's no time to stop and think about it. It's not like there is an ejection seat.
ReplyDeletewhat coud it hurt?
ReplyDeleteExactly, it's better than the Danica Patrick procedure: As soon as you lose control just let go of the wheel entirely. Just don't bother to even try.
DeleteFront wheels....not front tires.
ReplyDeleteSeb Buemi in the 2010 Chinese Grand Prix.
ReplyDeleteCause?
ReplyDelete“ Sebastien Buemi's spectacular accident in practice for the Chinese Grand Prix was caused by the failure of the front right upright.”

ReplyDeleteWasn't that one of the cars in "the Great Race"?

Been a F-1 fan decades, many as a crashing coming let go of the steering wheel as you're just a passenger at that point
DeleteUnconscious Instinct. Like a boxer who would throw a punch at a crocodile even after the beast already took his arm
ReplyDeleteUnconscious reaction to avoid hitting the wall at that speed…oops, too late.
ReplyDeleteI've had semi trailer wheels break off and they always seem to pass the vehicle they came off.
ReplyDeleteWhy is that???
Spinning at same rpm but not carrying the
