And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Broken so many of those off over the years. Sadly, Irwin still offers one of the best quality sets out there. But, when something is stuck, you're already to that point of trying to save it, this is the best option. These do not hold up to the plasma cutter that comes after them snapping. You're re-tapping anyway, so might as well kill it with fire.
You are always one broken bolt away from turning a half-hour job into and all day job. I have 5 or 6 differnet sets of spiral and straight flute screw and bolt extractors, stripped bolt head and nut extractors and even a set of home-made stud extractors and a 29 piece left hand bits set. The range runs from tiny screws to 1-1/2"+ bolts and pipes up to 1" I love the Irwin brand extractors the most especially their 26 piece stubby spiral set. They are especially great at rmoving stripped Allen head screws and bolts (no drillig necessary.)
always get the kit with the included drill bits. left hand bits are a good thing.and yes these are the next to last resort. the king of broken bolt extraction is the flame wrench.
Where did you stick your flute such that you need a drill bit to extract it?

ReplyDeleteWhat is a bigger PIA is when the extractor breaks. The next step is to weld a nut to the extractor. Last resort is the torch.
