And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
No @ sykes1 Bush flew the F-106. That is a pre production F-102, before they discovered the "wasp waist" to enhance super sonic flight. The pre production F-102 could barely break mach 1. Also the later F-102's and F-106's had a MUCH different canopy.---Ray
This is probably a YF-102, the USAF used the Y prefix to denote pre-production aircraft that were being tested. Also the Convair marking would never be allowed on a service aircraft. The prototype YF-102 was marked FC-994 and this is FC-782.
The F-102A had the coke-bottle fuselage that allowed it to break the sound barrier.
I believe this is what W flew in the ANG, TX.

ReplyDeleteActually, the YF-102 couldn't break Mach 1 in level flight. Also, the Texas ANG flew F-102s, not F-106s.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid in Sault Ste Marie MI we heard sonic booms nearly daily from F-102/F-106 fighters at nearby Kincheloe AFB.
