And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Good point. Some stuff people really do want now that they didn't have then, like Medicare and Social Security, but for sure a flat tax without deductions ought to be made to pay for all that.
undoubtably right, but they will still want it. I wonder what options would be possible if the money would be properly invested to get a safe and sane 4 or 5%. Over time, that should result in a pretty nice nest egg.
People only think they want Social Security because they're too stupid to know how bad a deal it is.
