"While California suffers through a nation-high 9.8 percent unemployment rate, a state budget debt of $34 billion, and $766 billion in unfunded liabilities, Democrat-appointed officials haveokayed borrowing another $8.6 billion to begin work on the state’s vaunted high-speed rail. The rail will supposedly cost $68 billion, but some estimates have placed the cost at above $100 billion. The state has not yet bought the land on which the rail is supposed to lie."
The reality is that the politicians don't care if the train is ever built, they don't care that it costs so much, and they don't care how much they have to borrow to get it. That's because what they do care about is paying off their union allies with taxpayer money, so they can get the union votes and donations. Thus, the longer that it takes to build, the better, as that is just more years to take money from those who earn it, and give it to their buds. Meanwhile, the state itself is groaning under a huge debt burden, and a huge tax demand from those who are productive. Doesn't matter to Jerry and the Dems, since they control every statewide office of significance, and they mean to keep it that way with devastating boondoggles like this.
