And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There really has not been a logical reason for an improvement since 1911. And certainly, no reason for the US military to substitute that horrible 9 mm.
With the 1911, all you need it do is to hit your target once. With the 9 mm, like the .38 that the 1911 replaced as a US military sanctioned sidearm, you had to shoot three or four or even 10 rounds to knock down your attacker. Again, score one more for the 1911.
Q: "Why do you carry a 1911 .45?" A: "It's what my father carried in Viet-Nam and Korea. My uncles and father-in-law carried it WWII. My grand-father and great uncle ... well, they probably carried M1917 revolvers but they WERE chambered in .45acp.
Mine's a Commander size, bobtail, like a $3200 Ed Brown, Kobra Carry, only by Tisas. All forged (except the recoil spring plug), sights are centered and perfectly sighted in for 25 yards, out of the box.. Fitment and finish is xlnt, it's a utilitarian, work of art, with cool factory grips. Only have a couple hunnert rounds through it, but no stoppages or malfs yet. The trigger is awesome, the only thing I'll change are the sights. I've had more than a dozen 1911's over the last 50 years. Got my first one in '76, same year I got my current wife. Seems to be working out.
We all have our filters, don't we? When I look at the picture, I'm drawn to the Bible, and wonder which edition Study Bible it is (footnotes), which translation, and where it's open to.
Revelations, 19:11 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.” Proof that Saint John Moses Browning was divinely inspired.
Why I carry a .45, besides being my TO weapon for 18 of 20 years in Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children. Why shoot twice, or more, when one will do? Ammo is expensive.
I was in a gun-buying mood in 2016, and I really, really wanted to like the 1911. The lines, the Won-Two-World-Wars thingi, all of it. But on renting and shooting several, nothing stood out. On a whim, I rented a FN FNX-45 Tactical, and my mind was settled. I don't shoot it often, but its a nice gun.
Have to ask. Where's the split of function and penis extension. There's a point where it's just pointless excess. And the things that make it a better firearm. There is the BBQ gun. It has to have bling. But it functions too

ReplyDeleteThe only improvement which comes to mind, capacity to carry more ammunition, IMO. 9mm .... eh, no! 5.7x28 yup! from 10 rounds to 23!

DeleteSGT Thomas A. Baker, US Army, MOH, ran one dry on Saipan 7 July 1944. "Lest we forget." Story here:

Odd placement of the weapon for a right handed person. If a leftie then why is it on the right side of the Bible? What observation skills, right?😎

Got my first one in 1975 at 15. My mom was the straw purchaser. Had 'em since. Had and have other semi-autos. There isn't better ones.
ReplyDeleteI am blessed to have 2 Nighthawks. One has 5000+ rounds through it and is as tight and accurate as it was new.
