At least it did that on the ground

  1. ground resonance. one corner touched down early. it happens so fast that the bird disassembles itself before the pilot recognizes it. the cure is to lift off again, but your reflexes are rarely fast enough.

    1. Based on the theory that a helo is a collection of parts that really don't want to be together.

    1. It's a general term meaning not in the air. Don't be a pedant.

  6. KA-27. We also had a somewhat similar design at one time.

  7. Every time I was on an army chopper it felt like it was gonna fly apart. Overwhelming vibration.

  8. I had a drag boat break a prop blade at a 100+ & the power head came apart like that. Every experience.

  9. Ground resonance. Up on collective, quickly. And you have to happen to be spooled up enough to have power to get off the ground. Helicopters with aircraft style landing gear with struts and tires are much more susceptible. If it starts to happen and you're onboard get as close the centerline of the rotor as you can and hang on. Everything will be flying away from you.

  10. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Especially from a Soviet design.
