And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My Dad had a Johnny Horton tape in his truck when I was a kid. I still find myself humming tunes like 'North to Alaska' and 'The Battle of New Orleans'. "...the gator lost his mind." LOL - macxcool
My grandparents had the album Johnny Horton's Greatest Hits. I think we played that album so many times we dug out the grooves. One of my all-time favorite memories was sitting listening to that album. I'll be listening to it again this evening.
What a good day of fishing that must have been. You could substitute my cousin Doug and me in that photo after a day at our great-uncle Mark's pond in the early '70s.
Billie Jean Horton was the widow of Johnny Horton and before she knew Johnny Horton, she was the widow of the Late, Great... Hank Williams Sr. While I was stationed at Barksdale AFB, I rented a 1-bedroom apt from her in 1982 in Shreveport. Miz Bille Jean did NOT suffer a fool so, you didn't want her on your bad side.

I have those on a thumb drive in my truck, full of my favorite music. Also, "Sink the Bismarck."
