And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Clint Eastwood and his Norton Commando on the set of “Kelly’s Heroes“
I had a Commando - a 750 with a "combat" engine. After a full rebuild it would do 95 in third and 90 in top. After months of tinkering I got fed up with it and swopped it for a CB550K3 . . . I found out much later that Commando heads were notorious for porosity and the "factory fix" was - not a replacement head, oh, no - but to bead blast the faulty casting to close the pores.
Never heard the term "peashooter" before. Had three bikes with scrambler pipes, a 65 Honda 250 Scrambler and a 1962(?65) BSA factory Daytona TT scrambler and a 67 BSA Hornet. Not counting a 67 Yamaha 250 DT1, but that was an expansion chamber. (I still have that bike!) Bubbarust

ReplyDeleteThe CB550 never gave me a moment's trouble!.
That's the ticket.
ReplyDeleteHigh mounted 'pea shooter' silencers.
