Clint Eastwood and his Norton Commando on the set of “Kelly’s Heroes“

  1. I had a Commando - a 750 with a "combat" engine. After a full rebuild it would do 95 in third and 90 in top. After months of tinkering I got fed up with it and swopped it for a CB550K3 . . . I found out much later that Commando heads were notorious for porosity and the "factory fix" was - not a replacement head, oh, no - but to bead blast the faulty casting to close the pores.

The CB550 never gave me a moment's trouble!.

  2. That's the ticket.
    High mounted 'pea shooter' silencers.

  3. Never heard the term "peashooter" before. Had three bikes with scrambler pipes,
a 65 Honda 250 Scrambler and a 1962(?65) BSA factory Daytona TT scrambler and
a 67 BSA Hornet. Not counting a 67 Yamaha 250 DT1, but that was an expansion chamber. (I still have that bike!)
