  1. My dad and his "men" captured one of the Nazi rail-car guns. There is a famous picture of them standing on the barrel of the captured gun.

  2. Krupp made 25 for the German Army. It took at least four minutes to reload and had an 11 inch bore, the same as the guns on the Scharnhorst.

  3. The Gustav was the inspiration for the M65 atomic cannon was a massive 280mm (11 inch) U.S. artillery piece developed in the early 1950s to fire nuclear projectiles.

  4. Watched a vid of a scientist who was developing a cannon to launch stuff into space in the 50s. Reached over a 100 miles. Then rockets became viable and the project was canceled.

  7. Don't recall where I read this, but this gun was limited to 9 salvos a day, then there was maintenance to be done.

    1. Maybe not his one but another required you to fire shells in a size order - the barrel wear required a fractionally larger shell for each subsequent shot until the barrel was worn out. I recall only a few shots until barrel required changing.

  8. Not sure if true, but read that those babies could launch equivalent of a VW 20 miles!
