You never hear of Sloppy Joe's anymore.

  1. We have em a couple times a year, but overall, I'd rather have a burger cooked on the grill - better flavor - less messy.

  2. Fill up the fallout shelter with that stuff… right next to the spam.

  3. Now with beef?!!
    What were they using before?

  4. Is the "now" element that Libbys has them at all, or that now there's beef in them, begging the question of what was there before. When I was at an impressionable age, my father, the sometimes comedian, told me that bbq beef sandwiches were made with rat meat. Never stopped me from eating them, when the spirit moved me to have one, but that's what I'm thinking while I eat it.

  5. We buy it in the packets and cook up the meat ourselves. I like it every once in awhile, messy or not.

    Anything in moderation.

  7. I remember these from the grade school cafeteria, but never could make them taste as good, for some very strange reason.

  9. It was chili for anglos who couldn’t handle spices, didn’t like beans, and didn’t own bowls. A can of Rotel, a pound of burger, a cup of spaghetti sauce, a few tsp of spices. Serve it on buns if you must but a tortilla wrap is less messy. Sloppy Joes were from the plain meat and boiled potatoes era before yankees knew how to cook.

  10. The old lady makes her own recipe handed down from her mom, fairly simple, but its like a lot of home cooking, its in the technique along with ratios, only intuitive home made food creates, how grandma made it.

  11. Looking at that mess it's clear to see why you don't hear of Sloppy Joe's anymore. Looks like diarrhoea.

  12. I haven't made one in over 30 years. Last one I made with Bullseye BBQ sauce. Made for a very tasty Sloppy Joe.

  15. My wife came across a recipe for the best sloppy joes I've ever had. None of that canned stuff. She since developed an allergy to tomato. It is now a filed but not (completely) forgotten recipe.

  16. Always made ours from scratch. Not that hard, tastes a lot better and most times eaten open-face style with a slice of cheese melted on top. Diced onion, ketchup, brown spicy mustard, worsterchire sauce and a little garlic powder.

    1. From scratch, open-face with cheese. That's where we part ways, Zimmy. Just mustard after that for me. I do add various seasonings while cooking the meat, but not afterward. However, yours does sound good!

    1. My Aunt taught me to do them from scratch. Grab a can of Sloppy Joe read ingredients and skip anything you can't spell.
