  2. Always have a knife, number one rule, in the Boy Scouts especially, grew up having one, remember how we all had knives, lot of us a couple, a folder and a sheath knife, plus a hatchet, in your pack, ready to go. We where taught such things, a prerequisite, the only question back then was having the best quality blades. Our Troop had a log cabin with bunks around the walls, even a kitchen and outhouse, though it was common to camp outside, particularly in winter, stay up past midnight watching the sky, and you got to sleep in a bit, breakfast from your open fire. Truly a great experience, lived on a farm even though, I think it was the structure of the original Boy Scouts, the always be prepared, it came natural to some of us. Stayed with me my whole life, lot of times later as an adult, it was common to be scoffed and ridiculed for holding on to the BoyScout mind set, great things you can not unlearn, too bad thats all been inverted ,and infiltrated by child molesters, can't have gung ho kids these days.

  4. I have my sister's Girl Scout knife from 40 years ago in my desk drawer right now. Since she actually used it back in the day, it's a bit battered and tattered, but still present and ready for duty if called upon!

  7. Grandson#1 just got his Cub Scout Whittling Chip and courtesy of his dad, a whiz-bang Leatherman. I'll have to dig around a bit, but when I find it, I'm going to give him the knife that I carried as a Scout.

  10. IIRC, the worst thing about that knife was that there was/is no blade lock.

    And still currently available
