I remember when "extreme skiing" was first becoming known. IIRC, it was in the late 1970s, when I first started downhill skiing. There was a proponent being interviewed, and the interviewer asked for a definition of extreme skiing. The answer was, "When you fall down, you die."

I am from California and tried skiing in the 70s up at Mt Baldy and was horrible. Previously my Dad had taken me up to the snow line in the San Gabriel Mtns when I was younger to see what it was like being in snow as I bugged him too much and he let me out and roam with me dog until I came back frozen. I should have learned.
