They're friendly toward divers, and particularly like scratches and tummy rubs. They'll do stunts to show off for divers.
As with most aquatic animals it's hard to tell how intelligent they are, but there are documented cases of mantas who were injured by fishing nets or hooks swimming directly up to humans and waiting patiently while being cut free.
