And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My brother and I did that. In those days there were stories of people going over Niagra Falls in a barrel. We thought it would be grand sport and trained as best we could...
Did that as a kid, only with a half round wooden hose holder, on concrete steps. Slight miscalculation ended in the back of my head split open, it was still fun while it lasted.
When my Grandsons were quite young my daughter and her family moved into a house and installed new carpet. She told the boys (preschool at the time) that if they hurt themselves, they were to roll to the tile and keep the blood off of the new carpet. There were a couple of times when she'd hear one start crying and the other would yell out "Roll to the tile! Roll to the tile!" She'd check, apply a couple of bandaids and a couple of kisses, and all would be well. There were no serious injuries, but much boyhood fun was had.
