    Bonus points for those that know what those vertical wires between the t-posts are called.

    1. I’ve always heard those vertical wires called stays. Also, the bottom wire should be smooth because that lets your dogs squeeze under the wire when herding animals. I had a friend who used to say that he saw antelope going under the bottom wire rather than jumping the fence like deer and elk do.

  4. Yep---they're stays. The critters shown appear to be muleys- they usually jump a bobwahr fence; have seen 'em go under too. Antilocarpus americana (pronghorn) rarely jump-what seems to be their knee is really an ankle-so they go under.
