And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Propane is the fuel of choice IF you have a big tank - at least 1000 gal. That'll carry you through pretty much anything except end world scenarios. If you have nat gas on tap, AND a big enough line, that's nearly as good because the gas company uses gas to power its pipelines. Basically an infinite tank, until a line breaks. Problem with propane is you derate by about 7-8% vs gasoline; nat gas, 15+%. If you've got nat gas, get a trifuel and keep a couple 100 lb propane tanks in the shed (it stores forever).
My Kohler propane generator is rated at 14 kW on propane and closer to 15 kW for natural gas. I have a couple of gasoline generators as backup, but I almost never use them. I also have a 17 kW Generac that needs repair.
For decades, while living in the woods of Eastern PA, we lost power virtually every time a major storm hit the area. For Hurricane Sandy, we lost it for 14 days. Our generator kept us at least alive. It was only gasoline powered. It was a major PIA finding gas. I'd have rather had a propane powered model. The electric (battery) start is a must!!!
Dual fuel is good as propane lasts about forever.
ReplyDeleteI canceled my propane service when the price went through the roof.
ReplyDeleteSo, chopping wood now?
DeleteJust paid $3.40/gal for propane here in NH.
DeleteGot the 12000 watt. Run it once every 6 months on LP. Never had gas in it yet. "yet"
ReplyDeleteNo gasoline, ever, if at all possible.
DeleteHave one. Worth every penny.
