  1. Was this a recent discovery or from 49er days?

    1. Around 2010, although naturally the finder wasn't going into specifics. I personally know someone who found a nugget like that the size of a cheeseburger, at (or near) Yankee Jim's on the American River. They're still out there, and after a wet, rainy winter is the time to look.

    2. Did you hear they're building a new Yankee Jim's bridge to replace the old suspension bridge? They'll keep the old bridge up for pilgrims, but they want a modern bridge to allow fire apparatus to be able to cross the river, which they couldn't do on the old rust bucket of a bridge.

    3. I had not heard that. They might want to sluice the dirt they dig for the foundations - just in case!

  2. I'd say "nugget" is an understatement.

  3. At today's rate, it would be $361, 268.64

    1. Keep in mind the difference between an ounce Avoirdupois and an ounce Troy.

    2. collector value can be considerably much higher, particularly if it has nice quartz crystals surrounding the gold, seen one in Tucson that was very beautiful, gold weight value never entered into the value of the eventual paid price.
