Toyota Landcruiser

Had a friend in high school with one.  He managed to get it stuck in some surprising ways, and both burned up the clutch once, but not before getting way back into the mountains, and another time having the wire from the gas peddle snap, at night, on a mountain road, resulting in the cruiser's engine dropping to idle.  We had to jam the carburetor into one position between idle and roaring and drive back probably fifty miles at one speed.  Way slow up hills, way fast down.  Fun times.

  1. Fun times!

I had a buddy that modified a Bug. Put tractor tires on the rear and we managed to get it stuck in the middle of the Bonne Carre Spillway in a mud pit.

  2. Miss my ‘76 FJ40. Rode like a little red wagon, got 13mpg, but went anywhere I wanted and looked cool doing it.

    1. I always wanted one; probably still do. Glad you had the opportunity!

  3. I had a right side drive one in Afghanistan. The fuel tank had been replaced with a 60 gallon tank that showed full for 35 gallons. The odometer did not work.

  5. There's a Toyota dealership near us that has one of these in their showroom in primo restored condition. I'm not a car guy, but I'd be surprised if an old restored LandCruiser didn't fetch $200k.

  6. It always amazes me how quickly people forget.
Being Australian (mostly) my people fought the cruel Japanese for years.
Now all around me I see people driving Japanese cars.
And our Australian cars are no longer made.

It is the same in the USA, sure the Jap cars are well made ... but AT WHAT COST ?
You want to buy a Mitsubishi ? Oh, ok, that was the company that made the planes that sank the fleet in Pearl Harbor.

Sure I drive an Alfa Romeo, but at least Italy swapped allegiance midway through the Number Two World War .... but I would never buy a BMW because they made machines that literally killed my uncles.

And wait until you hear what VW was doing back then !

Buy American, French, British, Swedish, Spanish ... or Italian
    Don't buy Japanese, Korean, Chinese.

Ok, ok, do what you want, I'm just saying
Maybe your father didn't get killed by the CENSORED scum

Sheez, you can't even say colours anymore

    (colors in abridged American English)

    1. 🙄
I’d never buy an American car. Those damn Yankees from Detroit killed a lot of my relatives a mere 160 or so years ago.

    2. 1/2 of the people alive now were not even born when 9/11 happened. The magnitude of the event is lost on them. You expect them to go back 60 years further and hold a grudge against the axis powers, or China or Korea?

I drive a Chevy truck. It was made in Mexico. Toyota pickups were made in the USA for years, and are once again. Texas, I think. Which is the more patriotic purchase?
