Here's what happened to a guy who shot his deer, took it home and butchered it in his garage. Living in Montana presents some extra challenges beyond what most deer hunters face, as a grizzly bear smelled the fresh kill, and pulled the garage door off to try and get at it. This was the second visit by this bear in two days.
I'm at a rural place we own where such things occur. It's in SE British Columbia just north of Eureka Montana

I'm a gun owner, but a city boy, and the ferocity of the locals surprised me. Every bear is treated with forbearance until it crosses the line. A stolen game carcass, a fruit tree, a garden, whatever. After the line is crossed the bear is dead.
The whole community hunts it down, then buries it or leaves in a distant place where the scavengers will feast.
Don't believe all the stories about all Canadians being gun fearing wimps. Country is country, everywhere.
