Captain Raoul de Beaudéan of the ocean liner Ile de France. In 1956, he famously turned back from an eastbound voyage to Europe to respond to the sinking Italian liner Andrea Doria off Nantucket, helping US Coast Guard and Navy forces to save the lives of over 1,600 Italians and Americans on board.
Probably got reprimanded for wasting fuel.
