Ossetian woman in traditional Indo-Iranian attire

Ossetians are an Iranian-speaking people living in the Caucasus region. Ossetians are considered to be the closest living relatives of the Scythians, specifically through the Alanic branch of the Sarmatians who settled in the region sometime around the 4th or 5th century AD. The main population lives in North Ossetia (part of the Russian Federation) and South Ossetia.

  4. Wouldn't it be "Persian" or "Farsi" speaking? I don't think there is an "Iranian" language per se.

    1. Yes. Mostly Persian (64%). Persian (Farsi) is the official language, but other languages like Azeri Turkic, Kurdish, Gilaki, Mazandarani, Arabic, and Balochi are also spoken.

  5. Certainly one of the early caucasian bloodlines. Understand now why you know who wants to genocide their culture, history and entire race, and why they are so hardy and resourceful people having survived and kept their culture intact all these centuries. Good on them. Good to see peoples in various places starting to defend themselves successfully.
