And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Wow, all custom work. Cost was probably significant.
LOL haven't wandered around a lot of walled and gated American communities, have you?
Peons work for other folks. Just the facts as old as the Old Testament.
Funny not funny is how American Pickers "Barn Finds" of Rich folks Duesenberg's and Chauffeur driven vehicles were there because of the backlash of the great depression. Rich folks thought it better to hide the old glam and buy nice but more acceptable cars and fire the Chauffeur.
Depends on when this was made. There was a time when wages were 'comparable' to now, but Iron cost like silver (and steel like gold). the Iron was the expensive part of the project. Labor was "less" of an issue, so the difference between plain and fancy was minimal. If you could afford the iron, fancy work wasn't going to break the budget.
(I've been told that middle class house would often have fake nailheads in the public areas to make it look more expensive. We do the same with wooden plugs to cover the screwheads.)
Cost is no object when saddled on peon’s backs dontcha know?
