And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
For three days I had been tracking the fellow. The morning of the third day I got a clear sight of the magnificent beast. The scene looked very much like what is shown here.
For a moment I marveled at the beautiful scene. Just as I was to squeeze off a shot, from somewhere down the valley three shots in quick sucession rang out. The elk took off to disappear behind a clump of trees. I gave chase but his tracks led up a slope into the distance.
