  1. The thrill of going fast & pray no cars come around a corner... same for cars pray no fool on a skateboard comes around the corner.

  2. Just before the video ends, a sign warning of a 90 degree corner ahead.I wonder if he made it.

    1. Because of that turn, I know where he is. He's on Hwy One heading south about twenty miles south of Monterey.

Back in the 1980s I had a job that had me drive Hwy One between Morro Bay and Monterey up and back two times per week. That plus my many surf and hiking trips. I knew the road intimately. That familiarity freaked out a lot of other drivers. I knew where to pass slow moving turons even if it looked sketchy.

Generally, the speed posted on the yellow cautionary sign is ten mph slower than what is safe. But this turn? This turn you better take at or under the posted speed. The sign visible here says 15, but the sign up ahead says 10. The speeding skateboarder shouldn't have much trouble if he uses the whole width of the road. But there is a quick dip and a bump coming out of the second turn. That might cause him some grief.

(The reason the posted speed is 10 under is because they know a majority of drivers will go ten over what is posted. So they posted ten under which is the safe speed.)

    2. It's the only turn on over ninety miles where you better slow to or below the posted speed. The approach is a steep downslope, including entering the first turn. It a real attention grabber.

    1. Even the wheels with the good ones start melting at 90mph.

    2. IIRC, the cost of grade 7 bearings used to run about X7 over the run of the mill skating bearings. (grade 3?) Got expensive with 8 wheels for quad skates. More than the pro level skates cost new!

  6. I knew a guy who killed himself doing that in the late 70's. Even though he knew the road well, he hit a cattle guard that sent him flying (I have no idea what his plans were.) Major brain injury - he only lasted about a year after that - totally crippled up - very sad.

Not to be outdone, a few years later a woman hit the same cattle guard on a bicycle at speed (I used to do well over 50 on the same stretch), apparently at a bank angle as bike skidded out from under her. Did not survive impact.
