And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Some do better than others. I looked good in my passport photo at 40 (didn't stop wife trading me in though) and people are amazed I'm 69 when they try to guess. But, under the glossy exterior I feel every day of 69 - an active life with crashes does that.

Streets of buildings, hell, even whole towns have just...gone away in the past.

ReplyDeleteI was about his age in 67 and heading to Vietnam for my first tour. Left no girl friends behind nor when I returned. Great years to be alive!
